What to check in your kitchen first

- The range. A 36-inch range where a 30-inch one sits now usually means a bigger hood and often a larger gas line.

If the boxes pass and you like where everything sits, a refresh inside the existing layout may be enough. If two or three of those fail, plan on new cabinetry. And if the real problem is that the kitchen is too tight for the people in it, Colleyville's larger lots often leave room to push the kitchen out instead.

A primary bath from the mid-1990s usually wants the same honest look under the vanity and around the shower before any tile is chosen. Tile and grout are not waterproof, so ask how the new shower will be waterproofed behind the tile.
