Board and batten, picture-frame molding or wood slats: which costs the most for one wall in Frisco?

Published installed costs for board and batten, picture-frame molding and wood slats on one 10x15 wall in Frisco, what moves the price, and Lively's own range.

For one 10x15 foot wall in Frisco (150 square feet), acoustic wood slats reach the highest published prices. Installed, acoustic slat panels run $12.50 to $25+ per square foot, or $1,875 to $3,750+ for your wall (Total Wood Store). Board and batten runs $9 to $23, or $1,350 to $3,450 (Fixr). These guides give you no installed price for picture-frame molding by name. The closest is Angi's flat-panel figure, $10 to $15, or $1,500 to $2,250 (via Wall Panel Planner). For your 10'x15' wall, Lively Luxury Designs' published starting price is $1,500, and its walls range from $1,500 to $20,000 by size and what is done.

The three ranges overlap a lot, so the style you pick is only part of your price. The material you choose moves it just as much. Paint-grade MDF, solid wood and a factory slat panel are priced very differently. You won't see a Lively price for each style, and your Lively price covers paint, labor and materials.

What does each accent wall style cost for one 10 by 15 foot wall?

At published installed prices, your 10 by 15 foot accent wall works out to about $1,350 to $3,450 in board and batten. At Angi's flat-panel rate, the closest priced style to picture-frame molding, your wall works out to about $1,500 to $2,250. In acoustic slat panels, your wall works out to about $1,875 to $3,750+. These are national ranges. None of the three guides gives you a Frisco or Dallas figure for these styles.

The 150 square foot column is a calculation you can check: each source's low and high rate times 150. If you lean on Fixr's board and batten figure, know that it comes from a wainscoting guide, not a guide to single accent walls. Watch the word "shaker" when you read these guides. Fixr uses it as another name for board and batten, while Wall Panel Planner groups "simple shaker" with flat panel. Each price you see here keeps the label its own source uses.

For your 10'x15' wall, Lively Luxury Designs' published starting price is $1,500, and its range is $1,500 to $20,000 by wall size and what is done. You will not find a published Lively price for each style.

Why does one accent wall style cost more than another?

One accent wall style costs you more than another mostly because of labor: how many pieces get cut and fitted on your wall, and how hard the pattern is to lay out. On your wall, a picture-frame or shaker grid takes about twice the pieces and twice the cuts of board and batten, Wall Panel Planner says. Its guide puts the grid above board and batten in cost for a wall like yours.

These are the things that move the price of your accent wall, from Lively Luxury Designs' own service page:

  • Wall size and ceiling height. If your ceiling is above standard height, the wall needs staging and takes longer per square foot.
  • Material. Paint-grade MDF trim, solid wood, factory fluted panel, plaster and stone are a wide range, and you cannot swap one for another.
  • Pattern complexity. The pattern you pick matters. In Lively's words, "A grid of equal rectangles is quick. Mitred arches, curves, chevrons and irregular grids are slow, and slow is the cost."
  • Wall preparation. If your wall needs skimming flat or its texture taken off, that is a separate stage before the trim goes up.
  • Electrical. Sconces, backlighting, a recessed TV box or a new outlet bring an electrician into your room.
  • Paint scope. You can paint the wall alone, or the room, ceiling and trim too.

Your Lively price is all-inclusive, covering paint, labor and materials, according to Lively's FAQ. Most published guides do not tell you whether paint and wall prep are in their numbers. Keep that in mind when you hold a Lively quote next to a guide figure.

Does a textured wall change the price of board and batten, picture-frame molding or slats?

Your textured wall does not rule out any of the three styles, and Lively Luxury Designs says 99% of its work is on textured walls. If you want the wall skimmed smooth first, Lively's FAQ lists that as an additional charge. You won't find a published Lively figure for skimming.

On your wall, texture matters more for some looks than others. If your wall has heavy orange peel, flat modern paneling over it reads wrong, Lively's accent wall page says. Your choice is to skim the wall flat, or to pick a treatment that lives happily with texture, and Lively tells you which at the walkthrough. One Lively customer, Stacy G, wanted both. Her Google review says they wanted "the skim coating process" and "a French frame design." You can read about texture, prep and the full list of styles Lively builds in Frisco, Plano and the rest of DFW on the custom accent walls page.

Does MDF or real wood change the cost of a wood accent wall?

Yes, the material you pick can change the cost of your wood accent wall as much as the style does. Total Wood Store's 2026 guide puts paint-grade MDF at $7.50 to $16.00 per square foot installed and solid hardwood at $23.00 to $50.00+ installed. For your 10 by 15 foot wall, that works out to about $1,125 to $2,400 for MDF and about $3,450 to $7,500+ for solid hardwood.

If you want a paint-grade grid or fluted profile, Total Wood Store calls MDF the standard. It says acoustic slat panels are typically veneer over MDF slats on felt. Its installed figure for acoustic slat, $12.50 to $25+ per square foot, sits between its MDF and solid hardwood figures. Your Lively Luxury Designs price is based on the materials, trim and paint Lively commonly uses. If you want custom materials, Lively's FAQ says they may carry an upcharge, which is talked through during quoting.

Which accent wall style suits which room?

To pick a style for your room, start with Lively Luxury Designs' own match of each style to the rooms it belongs in. Picture-frame molding suits dining rooms, entries and primary bedrooms. If your wall is broken up by doors and windows, Lively calls picture-frame molding the most forgiving style. If your wall is in a hallway, mudroom or kids' room, board and batten is very good there, because the lower section takes abuse. If your wall is behind a bed, behind a TV or in an office on camera, slat and fluted walls go there.

If you run board and batten full height, it reads modern, and at chair height it reads traditional, by Lively's description. Slat walls are usually floor to ceiling. If your ceiling is low, Lively says a slat wall makes it read taller and softens the sound of a hard room. Customer Carrie Nie's Google review names "my wood slat wall in my primary bedroom" as the job Lively did for her.

How long does each accent wall style take to put up?

Your accent wall from Lively Luxury Designs could install in 1 day or take up to a week. The time depends on the size and complexity of your wall. You will not find a published Lively time for each style. You get an estimated timeline at the consultation.

The same things that raise your price also add time. If you want the quickest job, Wall Panel Planner calls board and batten the fastest style to install, because every cut is square. A grid of many frames takes longer, and if your wall rises above a standard ceiling, Lively's page says it takes longer per square foot. Here are the steps your job goes through, from Lively's accent wall page:

  1. Walkthrough and measure.
  2. Design and layout drawing, to scale, on your wall.
  3. Material and color selection.
  4. Install: set out, cut, fit and fasten, with your furniture and floors covered.
  5. Fill, caulk and sand.
  6. Prime and paint.
  7. Clean and walkthrough.

If your Frisco home is new construction, a trim or slat wall goes on over the finished wall. You can add it after closing. If you are still choosing, the guide to upgrading builder-grade finishes at the design center or after closing covers which choices are worth making before the walls close.

Quick answers

How much does board and batten cost compared with picture-frame molding?

Board and batten runs $9 to $23 per square foot installed in Fixr's guide, about $1,350 to $3,450 for your 10 by 15 foot wall. Fixr, Wall Panel Planner and Total Wood Store give you no installed price for picture-frame molding by name. Wall Panel Planner puts a shaker or picture-frame grid above board and batten in cost for the same wall. The grid takes about twice the pieces and twice the cuts.

How much does a wood accent wall cost?

A wood accent wall on your 10 by 15 foot wall costs about $1,125 to $2,400 in paint-grade MDF. That comes from Total Wood Store's installed figure of $7.50 to $16.00 per square foot. In solid hardwood, at $23.00 to $50.00+ per square foot installed, your wall costs about $3,450 to $7,500+. Acoustic slat panels fall between, at $12.50 to $25+ per square foot installed. With Lively Luxury Designs, accent walls range from $1,500 to $20,000 depending on wall size and what is done.

What does picture-frame molding installation cost?

You will not find an installed price for picture-frame molding by name from Fixr, Wall Panel Planner or Total Wood Store. The closest priced style you will find is flat panel, at $10 to $15 per square foot installed. That is Angi's flat-panel figure, as relayed by Wall Panel Planner under its "flat panel or simple shaker" heading, and Wall Panel Planner says a full grid pushes your price higher. If you want picture-frame walls, Lively Luxury Designs builds them but does not publish a price for the style.

Can board and batten or picture-frame molding go on a textured wall?

Board and batten and picture-frame molding can go on your textured wall, and Lively Luxury Designs says 99% of its work is on textured walls. If you want the wall skimmed smooth first, that is an additional charge with Lively. Heavy orange peel behind flat modern paneling reads wrong, so Lively says at the walkthrough whether your wall should be skimmed first.

Which accent wall style costs the least?

If you want the lowest published starting rate of the styles priced here, board and batten has it: $9 per square foot installed, in Fixr's guide. Wall Panel Planner calls it the cheapest wainscoting style, with fewer boards and only square cuts. If you only want color, Lively Luxury Designs says paint alone on a well-prepped wall costs a fraction of millwork.

How long does an accent wall take to install?

An accent wall from Lively Luxury Designs takes anywhere from 1 day to up to a week to install, depending on the size and complexity of your wall. You get an estimated timeline from Lively at the consultation. A tall wall or a busy grid of frames takes longer than a plain wall of battens.
