Courtney's Design Tips
How long does it take to put in an accent wall in Frisco, and do I need to be home the whole time?
How long an accent wall takes to install in Frisco and Plano, what happens before and on install day, what Lively publishes about being home, and how to move your date.
How long it takes to do an accent wall in Frisco or Plano depends on your wall. Your accent wall could install in 1 day or take up to a week with Lively Luxury Designs, according to Lively's FAQ. For most single walls, you are looking at "often a few days on site rather than weeks," Lively's accent wall page says. Your 10'x15' accent wall starts at $1,500, Lively's published starting price on that page, and your price is all-inclusive, covering paint, labor and materials. You won't find anything on Lively's website about whether you need to be home the whole time, so ask at your in-person confirmation visit one week before install.
You get an estimated timeline for your own wall at the consultation. Where your job lands between one day and a week comes down to your wall's size and how complex your design is. You can see prices, styles and what moves them on the custom accent walls page.
How long does one accent wall take to install in Frisco or Plano?
One accent wall in Frisco or Plano takes 1 day to up to a week to install with Lively Luxury Designs, by Lively's FAQ. Your install time depends on the size and complexity of your project. If you have a single wall, you can expect a short project, "often a few days on site rather than weeks," by Lively's accent wall page. Whatever style you pick, you get the same two published lines. You won't find a separate published time for board and batten, picture-frame molding or slats.
You can also read accent wall installation times in Lively customers' own Google reviews. Judy Horstman wanted the design worked around her wall-mounted TV so she would not have to take it down. She wrote: "Daniel arrived at my house around 11:00 am and was finished in about 5 hours." Jason Vercher had two walls done and wrote that his installer "was able to complete both walls in about 12 hours." Each of those is one job, so read them as examples. Your own timeline comes from your consultation.
What happens on install day, step by step?
Install day at your Frisco or Plano home covers the last four of Lively's seven published steps: install, fill, caulk and sand, prime and paint, then a clean and walkthrough. The first three steps come before install day. Your wall is measured, you see the layout drawn on your wall to scale "before anything is ordered," and you pick your materials and colors.
Here are all seven steps you go through, in Lively's published order:
- Walkthrough and measure. Your wall gets a look, along with the light it gets and the walls around it.
- Design and layout drawing. You see the pattern on your wall, to scale, before anything is ordered.
- Material and color selection.
- Install. Set out, cut, fit and fasten, with your furniture protected and your floors covered.
- Fill, caulk and sand. You get what Lively's page calls "the step that decides the result."
- Prime and paint.
- Clean and walkthrough. You get your room back "usable, not full of dust," in the words of Lively's page.
On install day, expect paper on your floor and covers on your furniture. Customer Iesha Cole wrote that her crew "covered up my furniture and laid protective paper down on my floors to ensure no messes."
Do I need to be home the whole time?
You won't find an answer on Lively Luxury Designs' website about whether you need to be home the whole time during an accent wall install in Frisco or Plano. Ask at your in-person confirmation visit, which Lively's FAQ puts one week before installation. You can see material options and color swatches at that visit, where Lively's FAQ says the "project manager can show you different material options and provide you with color swatching."
Here is what you can find in Lively's published pages about the days around your install:
- One week before: your in-person confirmation appointment, where the "project manager can show you different material options" (FAQ).
- During the install: your furniture is protected and your floors are covered (accent wall page).
- At the end: the last step is a clean and walkthrough (accent wall page).
Two customers wrote about how the install fit around them. Jovan Morgan wrote that the crew "held a final walkthrough before completing the project to ensure I was completely satisfied." Sriramya Garapati had accent walls done in her living room, office and dining area. She wrote that the crew "Completed the project on time, without much interruption to my daily activities." Neither review says whether they stayed home all day.
To plan your own day, bring these questions to your confirmation visit:
- What time does your crew arrive, and does someone need to let them in?
- Should you be there for the final walkthrough?
- What should you take off the wall or move away from it before the crew comes?
- If your job runs more than one day, can you leave the house while the crew works?
Why does one accent wall take a day and another take a week?
One accent wall takes a day and another takes up to a week because of the size of the wall and how complex the design is, according to Lively Luxury Designs' FAQ. These parts of your job add work, according to Lively's accent wall page:
| What is on your job | What it adds | Where Lively says it |
|---|---|---|
| A wall taller than a standard ceiling | Needs staging and takes longer per square foot | Accent wall page |
| A busy pattern | "A grid of equal rectangles is quick. Mitred arches, curves, chevrons and irregular grids are slow, and slow is the cost." | Accent wall page |
| Skimming a textured wall flat | A separate stage before the trim goes up, at an additional charge | Accent wall page and FAQ |
| Sconces, backlighting, a recessed TV box or a new outlet | An electrician in the room | Accent wall page |
| Painting the whole room, ceiling and trim | More to paint; painting time depends on the square footage | Accent wall page and FAQ |
Your textured wall does not have to be skimmed first. Textured walls are the normal case, since 99% of Lively's work is on them, its FAQ says. A skim is your choice, and skipping it keeps that stage off your schedule.
Customer Stacy G's job had several of these at once. She wanted a skim coat, a French frame design and paint in her primary bedroom, then added her dining room wall. Her review says the workers "showed up on time and cleaned up so well after each day," so her job ran over more than one day.
If you are still picking a style, you can compare board and batten, picture-frame molding and slat wall costs for one 10x15 wall. If you only want pattern on your wall, Lively's FAQ says wallpaper install is typically done within a day. If your accent wall is part of a bigger remodel, the same FAQ says remodeling projects can run into multiple weeks. You can read how long a bathroom remodel takes in Frisco and Plano to plan around one.
What happens before install day?
Before install day at your Frisco or Plano home, you have a consultation, approve a layout, pay a deposit and go to a confirmation visit. Here is the order, from Lively Luxury Designs' FAQ and accent wall page:
- In-person consultation, at no cost to you. You get your estimated timeline here (FAQ).
- Layout approval. You approve the layout that Lively's in-house designer sets for your wall, before anything is cut (accent wall page).
- A 25% deposit to book your install (accent wall page).
- Confirmation appointment, one week before install. In the FAQ's words, the "project manager can show you different material options and provide you with color swatching" at this appointment.
Use your confirmation appointment to settle your questions about being home, and to ask what to clear from the wall.
When can I use the room again?
Your room is meant to be usable as soon as your accent wall crew finishes. Your job ends with a clean and walkthrough, the last step on Lively Luxury Designs' accent wall page, and the page promises a room left "usable, not full of dust." You won't find a published paint dry time from Lively. Ask at your walkthrough when you can hang art, mount a TV or push furniture back against the new wall.
Jason Vercher wrote that his installer "cleaned everything up once complete." On a job that runs more than one day, Stacy G's review says her crew cleaned up after each day.
Can I move my install date?
Yes, you can move your accent wall install date with Lively Luxury Designs up to two times, and your deposit carries over, according to Lively's FAQ. If you reschedule a third time, the FAQ says Lively has the right to reject the service and you will lose your 25% deposit.
If you cancel your installation, Lively's FAQ says you lose your 25% deposit. Under the FAQ, you can also apply the deposit towards a future project of equal or higher value as long as installation is within 90 days of receiving the original deposit. You can read the full wording on the FAQ page.
How do I get a timeline for my own wall?
